An essence is a type of skincare product that is similar to a serum, but typically has a more watery consistency. It's applied to the skin after cleansing and toning, but before serums and moisturisers.
Like serums, essences are made up of smaller molecules that can penetrate the skin more easily, and are able to deliver a high concentration of active ingredients.
Essences are often used in Korean skincare routines and are used to give a more nourishing and hydrating effect on the skin.
